Playing the race card is the go-to reason for something not going someone’s way. The latest example is the failed campaign of soon-to-be former Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot. No is going to believe it anymore even if it is the real issue.
We have heard people from politicians, actors, and news personalities, etc…..that the reason they did not get elected or get a movie role, etc…is because of their race. The latest example of this is from soon to be former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. She lost her bid for another term as Chicago Mayor. The reason she gave for her loss is;
“I am a Black woman,”
“Let’s not forget: certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”
Statements made to the New Yorker
Her record
The reason she did not get re-elected could not be the fact that the crime rate has soared during her tenure as Mayor. The murder rate is the highest it’s been in 25 years. In 2020 she wanted to defund the police by cutting their budget by $80 million dollars. She basically failed on every promise she made during her first campaign. From overhauling the police department, getting tax revenue from high-end homes to pay for homelessness and opposing the school board.
Crying wolf
It is examples like this that make us not believe that racism is a problem. When people cry wolf too many times no one tends to believe them. I think we are at that point now. It angers and saddens me at the same time. Look, racism is alive and well. We are a long way off from getting rid of it. People need to step up and take responsibility for their own actions, failures, etc. Now the tide has turned and white people are the target. It seems we are trading one race for another. Really sad.
