With the elections coming around fast, who would be the 2024 Republican choice? If you go by the CPAC vote, it seems Donald Trump would be the choice. Niki Haley has thrown her name in the hat as a contender, but her numbers are not substantial. Judging by what the media is portraying, it would seem Florida Gov Ron DeSantis may be making a run at the White House. I hope they learned something from teh midterm elections.
Donald Trump
One can bet that with Donald Trump running in 2024, it will not be a boring race. There are talks of having Kari Lake as his running mate. Lake ran for Arizona Governor but lost to Katie Hobbs. She has been a staunch supporter of Trump. Can he win? There are doubts that he can win. Even if Joe Biden decides to be a one-term President, Trump will face tough competition.
He must first battle his way through and grab the Republican nomination for President. This is no easy task since the Republican Party is fractured regarding Trump. You have many Republicans that do not want him around. Then you have those who are die-hard Trump supporters. It will be an uphill battle for sure. I am not sure if he can bring the party back together. It seems once you cross Trump, you are done as far as he is concerned. Immediately he goes on the attack to discredit you and bad mouth you. Not the best tactic when trying to build support.
Ron DeSantis
Governor Ron DeSantis seems to be on the trail testing the waters for a possible run in 2024. DeSantis has become very popular with his unwavering opposition to “woke agendas.” He has banned CRT in public schools. When Disney went woke up, Gov. DeSantis ended Disney’s ability to self-govern. The state gained the ability to oversee development at Disney. A 5 member board will govern the special tax district. DeSantis does not support U.S. efforts to arm and sends billions of dollars to Ukraine. This is a sticking point with many Republicans; of course, the left turns it into, “He supports Russia!” or he is a fascist. The left continues to attack him at every turn, but he somehow manages to turn it around and make them look like fools.
Niki Haley
Ms. Haley has thrown her name in the hat for the Republican nominee for the 2024 Presidential Election. On Feb 14, 2023, officially announced her candidacy. She has a tough road ahead; polling numbers show her far behind Trump and DeSantis. Haley served under Trump as the ambassador to the United Nations. Before this she was the Governor of South Carolina. She did not poll well at CPAC 2023, coming in last. One thing I like about her is that in an opinion article published by the New York Post on 24 February 2023, Haley vowed to “cut every cent in foreign aid for countries that hate the United States.” She listed Iraq, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, China, and Cuba as such countries and labeled them enemies of the United States. That will probably be one of her most significant selling points.
Who else?
Who else is going to take a run for the 2024 Election? A few names are out there, including Mike Pence and Tim Scott. I feel like it is a long shot for Pence. Too many people think he is too much of a RINO. Many people do not forgive him for defending Trump when attacked about J6. Scott might have a decent chance as he is more middle of the road and might have the opportunity to unify the Republican Party. I am sure there will be the usual ones who have no shot but want to get their names in the headlines. So who will the 2024 Republican choice be? I cannot wait to see?
If you have thoughts on anyone or think someone would be a good candidate, drop a comment, and let’s see some more names to think about if you have not made your mind up already.
