Was Governor DeSantis wrong with Disney? Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday signed a bill to dissolve a special taxing district that Walt Disney World enjoyed while it had self-governing powers for more than 50 years.

Is DeSantis being petty?

In response to Disney’s vocal opposition to Florida’s Parental RIghts bill, Gov DeSantis stripped Disney of there rights to self govern and a special tax status. This has been a hot topic for sometime as the the debate on parental rights in education bill (Florida’s HB 1557) was battling out in the news media. Disney came out to say:

“Florida’s HB 1557, also known as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law,” the company said in a statement. “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country.”

My thoughts on this are mixed. Fist off, Disney and all companies in my opinion need to keep their noses out of politics. In today’s political climate I understand that is almost impossible. With that said, should a state Governor strip special privileges because of a company’s stand on an issue. This is a tough topic for me. On one hand I think Gov DeSantis is being petty about the whole thing, then again, Disney should have kept their mouths shut and just run their company.

I understand that the employees put pressure on Disney to oppose the bill but remember, they are EMPLOYEES. They work for the leadership in the company. To use an old saying, “when did the inmates start running the asylum?”

I am not sure how to answer this question. Was Gov. DeSantis wrong with Disney, some will say yes others no. I have to say it sets a dangerous presidence by penalizing a company for speaking out against what they perceive as an injustice. I know in a lot of people’s mind Gov DeSantis did the right thing. Still I just have a hard time with it. Part of me is like you got what you deserved Disney so now suck it up. Then again I do not like the government penalizing a company for their beliefs.

This is just a bad situation all around. I do not see Disney packing up and moving anywhere else. They are just to big to make a move, it would probably take 10+ yrs to find a new spot that could accommodate their needs and build it out.

Effect of this on Midterm elections

How will this effect the midterm elections? With other states starting to enact the same type legislation what will this do for the Republicans in November. While many clap and say Republicans are finally striking back against the insane social justice issues will it hurt them in the long run. They can expect to see a lot of negative coverage in the liberal media. While I thought they had the midterms wrapped up a few months ago, I am not so sure now. I hope I am wrong as the left seems to be focused on such ridiculous issues they know how to fire up the crowd so to speak.

Is this a good thing?

I just struggle to think that this is a good thing as you can tell since I repeat myself a lot in this article. What happens if I have differing views on a hot topic and I voice those concerns as a company. Am I going to be penalized for it as well. I think we are heading into a minefield with no winners in this case. The question still remains, Was Governor DeSantis wrong with Disney? I guess only the individual can answer that for themselves.
