Russia attacks Ukraine after weeks of denying it would. We all saw it coming and no one believed the lies from Vladimir Putin. Almost 8 years after Russian took control of Crimea they have invaded the Ukraine. Claiming that the Ukraine has always been a part of Russia.
It was a full scale military invasion. Planes, helicopters and tanks rolled in to the Ukraine on February 24. At first glance it seemed that the Ukraine would be taken over very quickly. However the Russian advance in not going like most suspected. The Ukrainians are putting up stiff resistance and making Russia pay for every inch of land.
Ukraine will not go quietly
It seems most Ukrainians do not want the Russians there and civilians are taking up arms against the Russian aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told his citizens that the Ukrainian government would provide arms to anyone who wanted to fight. Images of civilians with arms are all over the internet.
Obviously Russia miscalculated Ukrainians resolve to defend their country. Civilians all over the country are taking up arms to defend their homeland. Even though I know Russia will prevail, Ukrainians are not going to make it easy for Russia.
Reports from the Ukrainian government claim the Russians are encountering strong resistance and taking lots of casualties. I want to believe the reports from the Ukrainians about inflicting large numbers of casualties but that region of the world has a history of inflating or outright lying about their successes. Again I hope the reports are true and they are making Russia pay for every inch of land.
President Biden’s action/inaction
President Biden quickly imposed sanctions on Russia claiming this could cripple Russia’s economy. What is really sad is that Biden admitted that they did not think sanctions would work. So it seems the United States and NATO will sit this one out when it comes to military action. Interesting that Putin decided to invade the Ukraine when the United States has its weakest President ever.
Looking at President Biden’s Tweet from Feb 2020, when did he ever go “toe-to-toe” with Vladimir Putin???? With Biden’s track record of lying and overstating things I am not surprised this came back to haunt him. With a record of Foreign Policy failures it’s no wonder that Biden is not respected on the world stage anymore. Look who he sent to Germany to try and work this crisis out with our allies and NATO, Vice President Harris. How can anyone think she would be the person to send? Harris cannot not even get a grip on our own southern border and had done nothing but embarrass herself overseas. This trip to Germany was no different.
Sadly I think the Ukraine will fall within the next week as Russia flexes it’s muscles to the world. Of course we will just hear a bunch of rhetoric from the Biden Administration as they are impotent to do anything. All we can do at this point is pray for brave Ukrainians that are putting up a fight against the Russian invaders.
