CRT making it’s way into your living room

Yes, CRT (Critical Race Theory) or spinoffs of a similar nature are making your way into living rooms across the country as far back as early 2020. The latest example I saw was in the Netflix series 100 Humans, released March 13, 2020. My wife and I were looking through Netflix and this looked a little different so we watched it. I started watching the show, it was different type show than is normally out there. The show has 3 hosts, Zainab Johnson, Sammy Obeid and Alie Ward do very good at hosting. However, one show in particular glaringly stood out. Episode 4 titled “Are You Biased?”.

The show attempts to show the common biases people may have. Ex: Is a man funnier than a women, put these 6 people into couples, shoot the person with the gun. After each of selected humans puts they are then shown the actual couples. One of the couples is 2 gay men and one couple is 2 lesbians. The “Human” was allowed to ask 1 question of each person and then “create” the couples based on the answers. What I find disturbing is that the hosts try to make the human feel bad about themself after the actual couples are revealed.

The last task is to shoot the person with the gun. The “Humans” are giving a toy gun that makes a shooting sound. Then 3 people present themselves (1 female possibly Hispanic, 1 white male, 1 black male) either holding a dark colored cell phone or a gun in different orders, two at a time or all at once. The human has to make a split second decision on whether to shoot or not shoot. The experiment was focused on the last scenario where the 2 males present themselves at the same time. Yes, most people shot the black man (who was a person the “Humans” interacted with everyday).

The part that bothers me is that they make the “Humans” feel so bad for themselves, might as well have called them racist pieces of shit, even my wife who is rather liberal said at the end of the shooting experiment that was completely insane and wrong. One of the Humans was black and shot the black man as well. I find the shooting experiment very flawed. You have people who may not be properly trained on shooting a gun or if the have some knowledge probably have not gone through proper shoot/no shoot drills. You can definitely tell who has never held a gun before, it’s obvious.

It amazes me that television is slipping in CRT into many shows that I watch. Look we all know that racism is still a problem, not nearly as bad as 20-30 years ago but it is still around. I wonder if the television and movie industries are going to admit their culpability in creating the racist perception that some people have. Looks to me like media in general has swung from one end of the pendulum (perpetuating racist stereotypes) to the other (claiming almost all white people are racist) without the media giants themselves admitting guilt.

Other great listening options.
